Mary Morgan

Mary Morgan was first elected to the Phoenix AKARAMA Foundation Board of Directors in April 2001 and elected for a second term in April 2004. She is a native of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, but moved to Chicago, Illinois at an early age and spent most of her life there.

Ms. Morgan attended Wilberforce University in Wilberforce, Ohio before graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Los Angeles State College in 1955. Following graduation, she embarked on a 30-year career in office administration. During the course of her career, Ms. Morgan held several positions of increasing responsibility, including service as private secretary and accountant to Bishops of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in Texas, Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi; District Cashier for Dictaphone Corporation in Cleveland, Ohio and Chicago, Illinois and Accounting Supervisor for the Arthur Andersen Accounting Firm in the company's World headquarters in Chicago, Illinois where she supervised the production of the monthly and annual reports of their international offices.

Upon her retirement eight years ago, Ms. Morgan relocated to Scottsdale, Arizona, where she has remained active in a number of service and civic activities. A Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. since March 1, 1952, Ms. Morgan has held several positions of leadership, including service as financial secretary for the 69th Far Western Regional Conference held in Phoenix in 1998, two terms as treasurer of her local chapter, Fashionetta Vendor Chairman and treasurer of this Foundation. She currently serves as Inter-Mountain Cluster chairman of the Golden Sorors Committee, Fashionetta Ticket Chairman and Chairman of the Time and Place Committee.

Additionally, Ms. Morgan is an active member of Tanner Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church serving as a member of the Executive Board of the Sarah E. Tanner Women's Missionary Society, and chairman of the Budget and Financial Estimates Committee of the Colorado Conference Women's Missionary Society. She is a member of the Arizona Ecumenical Council of Churches where she served on the Executive Committee for five years and a member of Church Women United where she served on the Executive Board of both the Phoenix Chapter and the state of Arizona for five years and acted as Chairman of the Valiant Woman Committee for the state of Arizona.

Ms. Morgan is the mother of three children, Edward, Jr., Grace and Nadya and six beautiful grandchildren.
