Vernita Petty

Vernita Petty was elected to the Phoenix AKARAMA Foundation, Inc., Board of Directors in April 2004, assuming the office of financial secretary. Mrs. Petty is a graduate of Phoenix Union High School and Arizona State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 1975.
Upon completing her degree, Mrs. Petty enjoyed a successful career in the field of medicine that spans nearly 30 years. In the course of her career she held positions of increasing responsibility at Maricopa Medical Center ranging from nursing assistant, charge nurse and nurse manager. In 1983, she joined Scottsdale Health Care where she has served as staff nurse, charge nurse, and nurse manager.
Mrs. Petty is a charter member of the Zeta Alpha Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., at ASU, and has remained an active member of the sorority for 34 years. During her tenure with the organization, she has held several leadership positions including recording secretary, financial secretary, treasurer, and Ivy Leaf Reporter. She has also been active with the Ebony/Fashionetta Steering Committee and Health Committee, and has represented her local chapter as a delegate at numerous cluster meetings, regional conferences and national conventions of Alpha Kappa Alpha.
Mrs. Petty has been married to Joe D. Petty, Jr., for 32 years. They have two children, V. Jenice and Joe D. III.
