The Phoenix AKARAMA Foundation, in conjunction with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Delta Beta Omega Chapter takes great pride in implementing and launching high impact programs that provide healthy environments and improve the quality of life in underserved communities.
As part of our Playground Revitalization Campaign, foundation members and volunteers refreshed the playground at Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church in South Phoenix and continue to maintain its upkeep.
The foundation also has a garden plot in the downtown Phoenix community garden, providing fresh herbs and vegetables to those in need. Plans are in the works to create more community gardens at various locations.
During the hot summer months, the foundation holds its "Hydrate Phoenix" campaign, collecting and distributing reusable water bottles to the homeless and others in need. To date, this campaign has handed out thousands of reusable water bottles and donations are always being accepted.
In March 2015, the Environmental Ownership Committee launched a partnership with PHX Renews as part of the community garden project, sparking new relationships and opportunities to build additional gardens. This committee is also leading the foundations efforts to encourage all members to "go green" through special presentations and skits at meetings as well as providing recycling opportunities with other community organizations.
In March 2017, the Environmental Ownership Committee was recognized by the Far Western Region of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated as a "green" partner and will compete for a national award in 2018.

We are always looking for volunteers to assist at our community garden or playground refresh and renew project. If you know of a playground that could use a little sprucing up or a community in need of a garden please contact us so that we can connect with you. We are also looking for generous donors to help support and/or fund our Green Initiatives.
